Terms of use

Last updated 20 September 2026

These terms explain the rules for using the Alodia Arts website, including Alodia Paper, Alodia Gallery, creator profiles, programs, opportunities, submissions, comments, book orders and donations. By accessing or using the platform, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

1. Who we are

Alodia Arts is a South Sudanese creative organisation that develops emerging talent, publishes writing through Alodia Paper, presents visual work through Alodia Gallery and creates pathways to learning, audiences and markets. In these terms, “Alodia Arts”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the organisation. “You” and “your” mean any person who visits, submits to or otherwise uses the platform.

2. Using the site

You may browse the platform, share links to published pages and quote short extracts for non-commercial purposes when you clearly credit the creator and Alodia Arts. Access to the platform does not transfer ownership of any writing, artwork, photograph, brand or other material.

You may not:

  • republish, reproduce, sell, rent, license or redistribute a complete work without written permission;
  • use writing, artwork or photographs commercially, including in advertising, merchandise or resale, without the rights holder’s permission;
  • scrape, bulk-download, data-mine or use platform content to train an artificial-intelligence or machine-learning system;
  • remove credits, captions or watermarks, or falsely present another person’s work as your own;
  • upload malicious code, misuse forms, automate abusive requests or interfere with the security or operation of the platform;
  • attempt to access staff areas, accounts or information you are not authorised to access; or
  • use the platform for unlawful, fraudulent, threatening or harmful activity.

4. Submissions and open calls

Submitting work does not guarantee review, selection or publication. We may decline work, request changes, hold it for a future opportunity or remove it where necessary. We may suggest edits for clarity, length, presentation or accuracy, but we will not knowingly publish a materially edited creative work without the creator’s agreement.

When you submit, you confirm that:

  • the work is yours, or you have documented authority from every relevant rights holder to submit it;
  • the work does not infringe copyright, privacy, publicity or any other third-party right;
  • any accompanying image is your own, properly licensed or in the public domain, and you can provide evidence if asked;
  • any person who can be identified in sensitive material has given appropriate consent, including a parent or guardian where required for a child;
  • the information supplied with the work is accurate to the best of your knowledge; and
  • you are legally able to grant the publishing permission described in these terms.

We may reject or remove material that is plagiarised, unlawfully discriminatory, defamatory, exploitative, threatening, sexually abusive, deliberately deceptive, an invasion of privacy, an incitement to hatred or violence, or otherwise unlawful. Creative work may address difficult subjects, but artistic context does not remove the need to respect rights, safety and applicable law.

5. Human authorship and artificial intelligence

Literary and artistic submissions must represent original human creative authorship. A work generated wholly or substantially by artificial intelligence, or altered so heavily by such tools that the human creator cannot reasonably claim the core expression, is not eligible unless an open call expressly states otherwise.

Limited assistance such as spelling, grammar, transcription, translation support, image cleanup or accessibility tools may be acceptable when the creator remains responsible for the work’s substance, structure and expression. You must disclose material use of artificial-intelligence tools in the submission notes. Failure to disclose relevant use may result in rejection, correction or removal.

6. Creator profiles

Published creators have a public profile page carrying their name, biography, disciplines and published work. Contact details are never shown publicly unless a creator has asked us to include them. You can ask us to correct, update or unpublish your profile at any time.

7. Comments and community participation

Visitors may submit responses to published work. Comments are held for review and do not appear publicly unless our team approves them. A published comment reflects the opinion of its author, not necessarily the views of Alodia Arts, a creator or a partner.

By submitting a comment, you confirm that you have the right to post it and that it does not:

  • infringe another person’s copyright, privacy or other rights;
  • contain unlawful, defamatory, threatening, hateful, abusive or deliberately misleading material;
  • reveal another person’s private information without permission;
  • promote spam, scams, unauthorised advertising or illegal activity; or
  • impersonate another person or misrepresent an affiliation.

You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to display and format an approved comment on the platform. We may approve, decline, hide or delete comments, including after publication, to protect creators, visitors and the integrity of the platform. We are not obliged to publish or preserve any comment.

8. Books and order requests

Orders placed through the marketplace are requests, not completed purchases. There is no online payment on this site: after you place an order our team contacts you to confirm availability, the final price, delivery or pickup and how to pay.

Prices, stock levels and delivery fees shown are indicative and confirmed at that point. We may decline or cancel an order if a title is unavailable or the details cannot be verified. Problems with a delivered order should be raised with us within a reasonable time and we will work with you to resolve them.

9. Opportunities, programs and donations

Jobs, fellowships, commissions, residencies and training listed here are subject to the eligibility and deadlines stated in each listing. Applying does not create an employment or contractual relationship until we confirm one in writing.

Donations are processed by a third-party provider on their own terms. Donations support our programs generally unless we have agreed otherwise in writing with you. Alodia Arts does not receive or store your payment-card details through this website.

11. Rights concerns and takedown requests

If you believe material on the platform infringes your copyright, privacy or another legal right, email admin@alodiaarts.com with your name, the page address, a clear description of the material and the basis of your claim. If you act for a rights holder, explain your authority to do so. We may temporarily restrict access while we investigate.

Creators may also ask us to correct attribution or consider withdrawing their work. We will review each request fairly, considering the creator’s rights, any separate agreement and the integrity of an existing publication or archive. We may retain limited internal records where reasonably necessary for legal, safeguarding or administrative purposes.

12. Accuracy and availability

We take care with what we publish, but the site is provided as it is. We do not promise that it will always be available, error-free or up to date, and we are not responsible for the content of external sites we link to. Views expressed in published work belong to the creators and are not necessarily ours.

We may correct, update, suspend or remove material or features without notice. You are responsible for deciding whether information or an external opportunity is suitable for you and for keeping your own copies of anything you submit.

13. Responsibility and limits of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Alodia Arts is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from use of, inability to use or reliance on the platform or a third-party site. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded, including responsibility for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable.

If your submission, comment or other material causes a third-party claim because you lacked the necessary rights or supplied unlawful material, you remain responsible for that material and for losses reasonably arising from your breach of these terms, to the extent permitted by law.

14. Changes and interpretation

We may update these terms as the platform grows. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

If a part of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining parts continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a provision does not waive it. These terms are interpreted under the laws that apply to Alodia Arts and your use of the platform; nothing here removes any mandatory rights you have under applicable law.

15. Contact

Questions about these terms, permissions, attribution, links or appeals can be sent to admin@alodiaarts.com or through our contact page. See also our privacy policy.
